New River Health District seeks a Public Health Nurse to join our wonderful team of nursing staff.
This posting is open until filled, however, the first review of applications will be after February 20th.
This position is based at the Montgomery County Health Department, located at: 210 Pepper St SE # A Christiansburg, VA 24073 The Montgomery County Health Department is currently seeking a Public Health Nurse to join our dedicated team of Public Health Nursing Professionals to provide quality nursing care to our patients in clinics, homes, schools and other areas of the community.
This position will focus on our outreach efforts in the community offering mobile and harm reduction services.
This position will be responsible for the oversight of our mobile unit program and may require some hours outside of normal business hours of 8am-4:30pm Monday-Friday.
Independently provides professional nursing care to patients in clinics, homes and schools and other community or congregate care settings.
Performs nursing assessments, may perform lab tests, take measurements, develop and implement care plans, including the administration of medication and case management.
Participates in public health emergencies and community health assessments.
Actions performed at this level require licensures as a RN by state code.
May supervise support staff.
Minimum Qualifications * Communicates verbally and in writing, to analyze problems, situations and suggest solutions, leadership, follow directions and establish priorities * Skills in physical examination, health assessment, and interviewing and counseling technique * Ability to function independently, prioritize and organize work, solve problems, adapt to change, function as a team member and relate to the public * Knowledge of public health concepts, principles of public health nursing, principles of epidemiology; immunizations; basic nursing science, medical terminology, case management * May travel and some weekend and/or evening hours may be required * Must be certified in Basic Life Support (BLS)/CPR * Requires licensure as an RN in Virginia or compact state.
If a new graduate, must obtain RN license within 90 days of the date of hire or subject to termination per the regulations governing the practice of nursing.
Requires BLS certification.
Requires adherence to all safety policies including a review of immunizations, driver safety policies, and all other state policies.
