Job Description:
Schnabel Engineering is seeking a Staff or Senior Staff Geotechnical Engineer (0 to 5 years of professional experience) in our Blacksburg, Virginia office.

Job Responsibilities:
Plan, coordinate, and manage geotechnical field work
Communicate effectively with subcontractors, project managers, and clients
Log test borings and prepare boring logs
Review boring logs and material classifications
Assign, perform, and review laboratory tests
Interpret data and perform design calculations
Develop plans and figures using CAD and GIS programs
Assist in preparation of geotechnical proposals and reports
Observe geotechnical-related construction and prepare daily observation reports
Required Skills/Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related major from an ABET-accredited program
0-5 years of professional experience
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Willingness and ability to perform field work and travel, including assignments that may last several weeks away from the office.
Ability to multi-task
Strong work ethic and a desire for continual self-improvement
Ability to lift 60 pounds and physically be able to negotiate construction sites, enter trenches, climb ladders, and work outside
Desired Skills/Experience:
EIT certification
Completion of geotechnical-focused undergraduate and/or graduate level coursework
Prior internship or professional work in a related field
AutoCAD Civil3D, OpenGround, and/or GIS experience
Other Requirements:
Ability to pass a background check which may include criminal history, motor vehicle record and credit check
Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening
