Unlock your potential at LewisGale Hospital Pulaski! Job Summary and Qualifications This position requires ongoing patient assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care plans for all radiation oncology patients.
Tasks related to expectation of a registered nurse include direct patient care, patient education, and assurance of quality patient care.
Performs initial nursing assessment to identify existing and potential problems prior to patient’s course of radiotherapy.
Evaluates each patient weekly during the course of treatment, to include assessment of side effects, reaction, and medication needs.
Performs assessment on all patients during the course of follow up visits after completion of treatment.
Evaluates the need for further referrals at this time.
Continuously evaluates the patient’s emotional, physical responses and refers to other support services as needed (i.
e.
, dietician, social worker, physicians).
Obtains necessary information for patients consulted to radiation therapy.
Provides direct care for patients under treatment such as changing dressings, administering medication, starting and monitoring IV’s, inserting catheters, mouth and skin care.
Provides psychological support, counseling, and or contacts Social Worker when appropriate.
Provides referrals to outside agencies (i.
e.
, home health agencies, social services, and the ACS).
Implements discharge plan for patients completing treatment, instructs and counsels patients and families as to post treatment expectations and care.
Maintains supply levels in nursing areas in a neat and orderly fashion.
Maintains neat and orderly examination rooms and nursing area.
What qualifications you will need: VA RN License Associate in Nursing/BSN Preferred 2 Years Oncology Nursing Experience BLS from an approved agency within 90 days of hire/transfer ACLS from an approved agency within 180 days- new employees/transfers have a maximum of 180 days to complete ACLS upon hire date.
During this time the nurse will work under the direct supervision of an RN who has satisfactorily completed basic arrhythmia competency and ACLS certification.
If the new employee fails to complete the above items in the established timeframe, the nurse lacking successful completion of the competency/certification will continue to work under the direct supervision of another RN as previously described.
This practice will continue until the new employee satisfactorily completes the basic arrhythmia competency, has passed licensure exam, and has obtained ACLS certification This role requires you to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 based on local, state and /or federal law or regulations (unless a medical or religious exemption is approved).
